Sourcing standards for buyer guides

Last updated November 4, 2026

InspectionTriage publishes free guides for home buyers working through an inspection report. This page sets out the sourcing standards for those guides and what they are meant to be used for.

Primary sources

The standard is that any claim in a guide that could affect a buyer’s money, safety, contract, loan, or insurance is supported by a primary source: the agency, law, program, or organization the claim is about, rather than another article summarizing it. Not every guide meets this standard yet. Guides that do not are brought up to it as they are revised.

When a guide cites a source, the link sits next to the claim it supports, and the source is paraphrased rather than copied.

Dates on a guide

A guide that shows a “Sources checked” date records the day its cited sources were checked. An “Updated” date shows when the guide was last revised.

Product mentions

Guides may mention InspectionTriage’s own products, and those mentions are meant to match how the product works on the live site. Guides carry no affiliate links, and they do not include names, addresses, or report excerpts that could identify a household.

General information, not advice

Guides are general educational information for home buyers. They are not legal, financial, insurance, or inspection advice. Contracts, laws, and local practice vary, so check anything consequential with your agent and the relevant professional.
